Supporting you and your baby from your first appointment through to birth - in partnership with Wagga Base Hospital.
Hammond Health offers Antenatal Shared Care in partnership with Wagga Wagga Base Hospital, allowing you to receive much of your pregnancy care from your own GP while remaining under the care of the hospital's maternity team.
Just found out you're pregnant? Call us on 02 6936 7020 to book in with your GP and get started with shared care.
For many women, shared care offers the best of both worlds. You continue seeing a doctor who knows your medical history and can provide ongoing care throughout your pregnancy, while the hospital oversees your maternity care and delivery. Our GPs work closely with the maternity team to ensure your care is well coordinated, with clear communication throughout your pregnancy.
All of our doctors are accredited Antenatal Shared Care providers through the Murrumbidgee Primary Health Network (MPHN) program. They work in partnership with Wagga Wagga Base Hospital and follow established shared care guidelines to ensure you receive high-quality, coordinated care throughout your pregnancy. If additional assessment or specialist care is needed at any stage, we have clear referral pathways in place so you receive the right care at the right time.
One of the things that makes Hammond Health unique is our team approach to pregnancy care. In addition to our accredited GPs, we have two experienced midwives who work within the practice, providing extra support, education and guidance throughout your pregnancy. Together, our doctors and midwives offer coordinated care from a team you'll come to know and trust.
If you're pregnant or planning a pregnancy and would like to know whether Antenatal Shared Care is right for you, we'd be happy to discuss your options and help you get started.
FAQ
Can I see the same doctor throughout my pregnancy?
Where possible you'll see your usual GP, supported by our midwives, so your care comes from a team you know.
When should I see a GP after a positive pregnancy test?
As soon as you can. Your GP can confirm the pregnancy, arrange early blood tests and scans, and get your shared care referral underway.
Who can have antenatal shared care?
Shared care suits most women with a healthy, uncomplicated pregnancy. The hospital's maternity team confirms whether it's right for you, and if your needs change during pregnancy, your care can move to the hospital.
Will I still give birth at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital?
Yes. You'll book in with the hospital's maternity service early on and have some visits there, but most of your routine check-ups can happen here with your GP.
