All things Women's Health

Our team of doctors are empathetic and compassionate to all elements of women's health, you can trust them to listen to what is happening and address any issues you have.

Contraceptives

Choosing the right contraception is a personal decision, and there's no single option that's right for everyone.

There are many contraceptive options available, including the oral contraceptive pill, three-monthly injections, the Implanon implant and intrauterine devices (IUDs). Each works differently and offers its own benefits, with some providing effective contraception for several years. Some contraceptive methods can also help manage heavy or painful periods, acne, or symptoms of conditions such as endometriosis.

Our doctors can explain how each option works, discuss the benefits, risks and effectiveness of different methods, answer your questions, and help you choose a contraceptive that best suits your individual needs, health and future plans.

Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTOP)

At Hammond Health, we believe everyone has the right to make informed decisions about their healthcare. We provide a caring, respectful and non-judgmental environment where you can discuss your circumstances openly and confidentially.

Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTOP) may be an option for women with an early pregnancy of up to 9 weeks (63 days), following assessment by one of our doctors. If MTOP is clinically appropriate, your doctor may prescribe MS-2 Step, a two-medication regimen taken over one to two days to end an early pregnancy.

Your doctor will explain each step of the process, discuss pain relief, what to expect, and the support available during and after treatment. A follow-up appointment is an important part of your care to confirm the treatment has been successful and to check on your recovery and wellbeing.

We understand this can be a difficult and personal decision. All consultations are conducted with sensitivity, privacy and respect, and we're here to support you throughout your care.

If you'd like to learn more about medical termination of pregnancy, please visit the information link below or book an appointment to discuss your individual circumstances with one of our doctors.

Fertility Support

Whether you're planning your first pregnancy or growing your family, our GPs are here to support you with expert advice and personalised care at every stage of your fertility journey.

If you're planning a pregnancy, we can provide a comprehensive preconception health check. This includes reviewing your general health, checking your immunity to infections such as rubella and chickenpox where appropriate, discussing folate supplementation, and talking through lifestyle factors that can affect fertility for both partners.

If you've been trying to conceive without success, our GPs can arrange initial fertility investigations, including hormone blood tests, ovulation tracking and semen analysis. We can explain the results, discuss what they mean, and work with you to determine the most appropriate next steps.

Where specialist care is needed, we can provide a Medicare-rebated referral to a fertility specialist and, where appropriate, arrange preliminary investigations beforehand. This allows your specialist to have important information available from your very first appointment, helping you make the most of your consultation.

Throughout your fertility journey, your GP can remain an important part of your healthcare team. We provide ongoing support, help coordinate your care with fertility specialists where needed, and continue to work alongside you as your circumstances and treatment evolve.

Every family's path to parenthood is different. Whether you're trying to conceive naturally, considering fertility treatment such as IUI or IVF, or exploring other pathways to building your family, our doctors are here to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to your individual circumstances.

If you're planning a pregnancy or have concerns about your fertility, we'd be happy to help you explore your options and plan the next steps.

FAQ

Can I change my mind later?

Yes. Most contraceptive methods are reversible, and your needs may change over time. If you'd like to change or stop your contraception, simply book an appointment and we'll discuss the options with you.

Can my GP help before we see a fertility specialist?

Your GP is usually the best place to start. We can arrange initial investigations for both partners, explain the results, and refer you to a fertility specialist if further assessment or treatment is needed. A GP referral also allows you to access Medicare rebates for eligible specialist services.

Do you support all paths to parenthood?

Absolutely. Every family's journey is different. Whether you're considering fertility treatment such as IUI or IVF, donor conception, surrogacy, or another pathway to building your family, we're here to provide advice, coordinate your care, and support you throughout the process.

How do I know which contraception is right for me?

There's no single contraceptive that's right for everyone. Your doctor will discuss your health, lifestyle and future plans to help you choose the option that's most suitable for you.

How early should we see a GP if we're planning a pregnancy?

Ideally, book an appointment a few months before trying to conceive. This gives you time to review your health, check your vaccinations, start folate supplementation, and discuss any lifestyle changes that may support a healthy pregnancy.

How long does an IUD last?

Most IUDs are effective for between 5 and 10 years, depending on the type, but they can be removed at any time if your circumstances or preferences change.
